Dear Members,
March 2026
Over the past two years, the Executive and Finance Committees have worked hard to protect members from rising costs. We have absorbed significant increases wherever possible and focused on improving efficiency before considering any changes to pricing. The new deal with St Austell Brewery last year has gone a long way to enabling us to keep prices as low as possible.
However, the reality is that costs continue to rise at a level the club can no longer fully absorb.
We are therefore giving advance notice that bar prices will increase from 1st April. The new pricing structure will be published towards the end of this month.
Why This Is Necessary
1. Supplier and Wholesale Increases
Brewery prices, duty, wine suppliers and general wholesale costs have all risen materially. Inflation means many products cost more simply to allow us to stand still.
2. Utilities
This is a big one for us. Commercial electricity and gas are significantly higher than historical levels. Water too has jumped hugely.
3. Staffing Costs
The National Living Wage increase coming into force this April (close to 10%) has a direct impact on our operating costs and on what it takes to serve members responsibly and professionally.
What We Are Doing
We are not simply passing on costs. The Committee continues to:
- Negotiate supplier terms and monitor market pricing
- Invest in energy efficiency and smarter usage
- Review opening hours and operational models to balance access with sustainability
- Drive new revenue initiatives to strengthen the club’s long-term position
Our responsibility is to ensure Brixham RFC remains financially stable, well-maintained and vibrant — not just for this season, but for the future.
We understand that price increases are never welcome, particularly in the current climate. But protecting the long-term health of the club is essential. Strong clubs are built on sustainable decisions. Rest assured, Brixham RFC will continue to provide some of the cheapest bar prices in Brixham.
We thank you for your continued support and loyalty.
Yours sincerely,
Ken Rudge
Club Treasurer
