Brixham Trawlers Walking Rugby

The name of Brixham Trawlers is steeped in local sporting history, serving as a direct homage to a successful team that proudly represented the town during the 1930s. Brixham Trawlers Walking Rugby was officially formed in March 2023, dedicated to promoting fitness and community engagement through a low-impact version of the game.

Walking Rugby provides a welcoming environment for adults of all ages and abilities. The team meets weekly, offering a consistent opportunity for play and socialising every Wednesday evening at the Brixham College Sports Hall, with sessions running from 7 pm to 8 pm. The team is a welcoming, enjoyable activity designed for both men and women to play together in the same matches. Perfect for anyone aged 40 to 80 plus, regardless of experience, ability, race, religion, or gender.

It is a fun team game that is accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Whether an established player or completely new to the game, it is a much simpler version of the traditional rugby game. Less physical than a standard game of rugby, the aim is to have fun, socialise and keep active. Walking Rugby benefits are designed to improve physical health, well-being, self-esteem, relaxation, social inclusion, positivity, concentration and motivation.

We would welcome new members, in particular, female players. We play every Wednesday between 7 pm and 8 pm inside at Brixham Leisure Centre between September and May, and outside at Astley Park during the summer.
