Brixham RFC boasts a thriving youth rugby program, nurturing young talent from under 7s through to under 16s. Established in 1979, the club has steadily grown its Mini and Junior sections, welcoming both boys and girls to participate in the sport.

For even younger aspiring players, the Rugby Cubs program caters to 3 to 6-year-olds, offering rugby-related activities in a safe, enjoyable, and pressure-free setting, with training sessions held on alternate Saturdays during the season at the Brixham C of E school hall.

Youth Chairman’s Notes 2026--2027

Brixham Youth Rugby is now proudly entering its 47th year, having been established in 1979. From those early beginnings, our youth section has grown into one of the largest and strongest in Devon, providing opportunities for more than 225 boys and girls across 14 teams every single week.

This past year has been another outstanding one for our youth section. Our facilities continue to be the envy of many clubs and have enabled us to host some fantastic events. Our Under 7s and Under 8s Tag Festival once again brought together clubs from across the county for a wonderful celebration of mini rugby, while our Schools Festival welcomed four local primary schools to Astley Park, introducing many children to rugby for the very first time. We were equally delighted to host the Eden Park Primary Schools Sports Day, further strengthening the relationship between the club and our local community.

Our responsibility extends far beyond developing rugby players. We are committed to helping young people grow in confidence, learn the importance of respect, teamwork and discipline, and create friendships that will last a lifetime. Rugby teaches resilience, humility and pride, and those values are just as important as anything that happens on the pitch.

One of the highlights of the summer was our annual two-day Rugby Camp. Open to both our own members and children from across the wider community, it showcased everything special about our club. The smiles, enthusiasm and enjoyment over those two days were a reminder that rugby is, above all else, a game to be enjoyed.

As a club, we must never stand still. We are actively working to secure the future use of Furzeham Green, creating additional space for training and fixtures while making use of changing facilities. It is another important step in ensuring we can continue to grow and meet the increasing demand for youth rugby in our town.

Perhaps our most exciting development is our ambition to appoint a dedicated Community Schools Coach. Rebuilding strong links with local schools is essential if we are to inspire the next generation of players. By taking rugby back onto school playing fields, we can introduce more children to our sport and strengthen the pathway into Brixham RFC.

Ultimately, our ambition is simple. We want every child who joins Brixham Rugby Club to enjoy their rugby, fulfil their potential and leave with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. If some progress into our senior men’s and women’s teams, that is fantastic. If others simply develop a lifelong love for rugby and the values it represents, then we have been equally successful.

None of this happens by chance. It is made possible by an incredible group of volunteer coaches, managers, referees, first aiders, committee members and parents who give so much of their time, energy and passion to our young players. You are the lifeblood of our youth section, and on behalf of everyone at the club, thank you for everything you do.
