Dan Parkes to become the new  DOR for Brixham Rugby Club.

Brixham RFC, are pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Parkes as the New Director of Rugby for the 2025/26 season.
As we  are already planning for the next season, we are pleased to announce that we have appointed Dan Parkes as our new Director of Rugby from the end of this playing season in May.
Dan is no stranger to Brixham Rugby Club.  He spent a very successful period as Head Coach a number of years ago.During this period, as Head Coach, Brixham won the Devon Cup and we achieved promotion into the league we now play. Dan then went on to be the head coach at Plymouth Albion.
Dan brings a lot of local knowledge and experience to the role. he will work with Adam Thomas as our Head Coach, and all senior coaches from the Crusaders and Colts, and lead the development of rugby at Brixham RFC.
Whilst he will not officially start until the end of the season, when he finishes coaching the Colts team at Plymstock Oaks, he will be supporting us with recruitment over the next few months as we look forward to the new season.
As we look to the future, we are pleased to have someone of Dan’s quality, and I know that he is happy to return to the club that has a very special place in his heart. Dan will be supported by a newly formed Rugby strategy group, made up of Directors of the club and former players.

And finally…
The Sirens are recruiting. Please help spread the word!

Brixham RFC – a rare opportunity

Our sponsor has pulled out at short notice for our game against Ivybridge on Saturday 18th January. This gives us an opportunity to do something different. We’d like to invite you to book a table of 10, to include a matchday meal and use of our sponsor’s facilities upstairs for only £100. That’s £10 each, which covers the cost of the food. Can you find 10 friends to join you to fill a table?

To book, please contact Sarah on 07855 932388 or sarahjanepookie@aol.com

Let’s raise the roof for this match!

Brixham RFC Updates 06.01.25

The 1st XV are away to Exmouth (2 pm, kick off) next Saturday with Brixham just one point adrift of the league leaders, Barnstaple.
We are anticipating a good turnout; however, if you are making the trip, please note that Exmouth has a parking eye system in place. If you use any part of their car park and want to avoid a £100 parking charge, you must enter your car registration into the computer in the bar. (As a number of people found out last year to their cost, this system works very well, and you will not get your money back under any circumstances).
Crusaders XV are at home to Torquay 2nd XV with a 2:30 pm kick off.

Brixham RFC Update 03.01.25

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We kick off the New Year tomorrow with a 2.30 pm home game against Chew Valley 1st XV. Many thanks to match day sponsor St Austell Brewery.
Brixham Trawlers (walking rugby)are also playing Chew Valley with a kick off time yet to be confirmed.

RIP Melvin Todd

As we start 2025 in our 150th anniversary season, it is with sadness that we at Brixham Rugby Club, record and acknowledge the sad passing of another Past Player from our rich heritage of Brixham characters. Melvin (Mel) Todd sadly passed away this week.
Mel, played a number of games for the first team at Astly Park in the second row, alongside the likes of Ray  Gardner in the early 1960s
Norman Marler has shared that unusually for a forward, he was a renowned kicker, using the toe punt method of the time. Such was the power of his kicks that once when converting a goal at the bottom end, the ball sailed out of sight never to be seen again. A local paper, prob the Herald Express, picked up on this and reported, tongue in cheek, that a fisherman had picked the ball up later, in the sea off Berryhead!
Melvin worked for Maurice Coopman at Brixham Steel Constructional down by the harbour in the ’60s. Maurice, Chairman of the club made sure that each employee had a certain skill and Melvin’s was wrought iron work, at which he excelled. I think it was in the late 70s that he left to carry on his own business working mostly on the trawlers.
When Mel finished playing he was a real character within the social side of the club helping to organise and being a key part in many a sing-song in the clubhouse.
It is individuals like Melvin, that Brixham Rugby Club is built on, and in this, our 150th season, we give thanks for him and all from our past, present and future.
From all at Brixham RFC, we send our condolences, love, thoughts and prayers to his daughters, Lisa and Mandy and all members of his family and friends.
‘Rest in peace Mel as you go over the bar for the last time’

Chris Forster
Chairman
